Air-polution

The emission of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere has no doubt created a negative impact on the environment. But the issue is beyond the environment, the health of humans is also gravely affected. Kerosene stoves, generators, gas flaring among others, are major components of the average Nigerian. This is sad because according to a recent research, about one thousand Nigerians die as every year as a result of inhaling of toxic smoke.
The inefficacy of power supply in Nigeria is to be the driving force of these hazards. However the use of clean cook stoves which makes use of biofuels, solar systems which makes use of the panel are all renewable source of energy which are environmental and health friendly . A solar engineer, Mr. John Kelechi, told Glamtech that solar energy which is in itself is a renewable energy which stores and supplies power, will be a healthy source of alternative energy.
His words: “Solar energy is an important part of every life process, plants and animal use energy to produce important nutrient in their cells, plants use the energy to produce green chlorophyll that they need to survive so as it is also attributed to human beings making use of the sun in producing renewable energy for human consumption since power is indispensable.”
The issue of noise pollution from generators is also something to consider. A solar system owner who did not want his name I print told Glamtech that said that since he installed the solar system in his house he has been able to sleep comfortably without noise from his generator. His words: “With my 2 KVA solar system at least I can enjoy most of my appliances at home. So many people has died as a result locking them self up with their generators so as to avoid getting it into the hands of hoodlums who are desperately in need of them. I do not want to be among them.”
In today’s Nigeria, petrol and diesel are king, and with grave consequences. Alternative sources of power are still taking baby steps as far as the country is concerned, but more attention is now being paid to them day by day.
