BENIN—AHEAD of the inauguration of the 8th session of Edo State House of Assembly next month, the people of Esan, on the platform of Esan Ambassadors for Change, have insisted that it was the turn of Edo Central senatorial district to produce the next Speaker of the Assembly.
The people, who spoke through Mr. Eigbe Samuel, among other members, Clifford Okosun and Elvis Usifo, in an interview with Vanguard in Benin, yesterday, also appealed to Governor Adams Oshiomhole to intervene in the matter by ensuring that an Esan becomes the next Speaker in fulfilment of his electioneering promise.
He said that Esan people will not take anything less than the speakership position, adding that there was no Esan high ranking man in the government of today.
“Edo North has the governor and the Secretary to the State Government; Edo South has the Deputy Governor, the Speaker, and the Chief Judge, among others, so there is nowhere an Esan man is occupying one of the key positions in government today.”
Expressing gratitude to the governor for his overwhelming support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the area during the elections, he said: “Governor Oshiomhole promised us during his electioneering campaign, especially at Ugbegun in Esan Central Local Government Area, that we should all work for Mr. Victor Edoror to win his election because he is going to be the next Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly.”
