BENIN—OVER ten petitions have been filed at the Edo State Election Petitions Tribunal by candidates of political parties who lost in the National and state Assembly elections in Edo State before the expiration of the deadline in accordance with the Electoral Act.
Secretary to the tribunal, Mr. Muktar Bello, said that respondents in the petitions have been served, adding that the tribunal had stopped receiving petitions from applicants at the end of the date set aside for receiving petitions.
Among those who filed petitions at the National Assembly elections are Mr. Samson Osagie, APC Edo South senatorial candidate against the winner of the election, Mr. Matthew Urhoghide of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Mr. Larry Ogieva-Okunbor, PDP, against Patrick Aisiweren-APC, for Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon federal constituency,
Still on National Assembly election, Chief Francis Inegbineki-APC is contesting his defeat at the poll by Mr. Clifford Ordia for Edo Central senatorial seat and Mr. Oladele Bankole-Balogun-PDP, against the election of Mr. Peter Akpatason for Akoko-Edo federal constituency.
In the state House of Assembly election, Mr. Okoro Asonsere-PDP, against Osaigbovo Iyoha-APC, for Oredo West state constituency, Friday Ogieriakhi-PDP, Martins Erhabor-PDP, respectively against the winners of Orhionmwon East and West state constituencies.
