Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Alhassan Yakmut has assured Nigerian youths that the federal government will continue to strive to
provide conducive sporting infrastructure for them to express their God given talents, even as he charged them to aspire for the best in their desire to serve the country in the area of sports.
Yakmut who spoke at a press conference to herald the commissioning of the 53 rooms High Performance Hostel located at the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium said international best practices were followed in constructing and equipping of the centre which he equally claimed would not only expose the athletes to the best of facilities but also curtail unnecessary spending by the Commission.
According to the DG who was visibly excited by the development, the NSC had in the past spent a lot of money in the payment of hotel bills for camping of athletes and officials adding that in the new dispensation, the High Performance Centre will afford the NSC would now use the money to other begging needs like the payment of allowances of the athletes.
“I am truly happy that this dream is coming true at this time because with this High Performance Centre in place, the financial burden of the Commission will now be reduced because instead of loosing sleep about camping of the athletes and officials, we now have a very conducive place to keep them hence the leverage to do other things with our limited funds.
“Secondly, with this facility in place, it will afford us the great opportunity of monitoring the attitude of our athletes while in camp, the idea of romancing performance enhancing drugs by athletes will be almost eradicated because our officials will always be there to know what they are doing at all times.”
