Gusau—The Zamfara State governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi yesterday rejected the results of the April 11, governorship and House of Assembly elections held in the state, describing the development as electoral coup.
Shinkafi, who spoke to Vanguard in Gusau, the state capital, saying what happened on April 11, 2015 in Zamfara State would never qualify to be described as elections as they were characterised by fraud.
He alleged that the electoral coup was executed by the Governor Abdul’Azeez Yari Abubakar-led All Progressives Congress, APC-controlled administration in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and supported by security agencies in the state.
“The APGA and the Wambai Campaign Committee, WAMCACO- 2015 has rejected the results of Zamfara State Governorship and State House of Assembly elections as declared by INEC.
“The outcome of the election results is unacceptable, this is because there were widespread fraud, conspiracy and collusion between INEC, the police, the Military and Abdul’Azeez Yari regime, which led to criminal and large scale rigging,” he said.
Shinkafi also alleged that in majority of the areas in the state the Card Readers were not used which allowed for the manipulation of the elections by the Yari-led administration.
“The election was a charade, because there was intimidation of voters, destruction of election results and other coordinated crimes by thugs, the volunteers vigilante group popularly known as ‘Yansakai’ and some traditional rulers supported by police from the Government House, therefore the so called re-election of Abdul’Azeez Yari is laughable,” he added.
He stressed that based on intelligence report by his campaign organisation, he personally signed a letter intimating the state Commissioner of Police and other security heads about the plan by the Yari led administration to rig the election but expressed surprise that no action was taken to prevent the electoral fraud.
“I will fight this injustice with the last drop of my blood. We are set and after full consultations with stakeholders at all levels, we will come up with a definite path for justice, liberty and peace for the good people of Zamfara State,” he assured.
