SAPELE—AN elder  statesman and Second Republic Secretary of Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, Chief Fred Sohwo has congratulated the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, on his victory at the just concluded presidential election.

He described the victory as an evolution of entrenched democratic culture which is good for the future of  Nigeria.

The elder statesman also congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat at the right time, remarking that the action of the president saved the country from imminent crisis.

Speaking with newsmen at his country home in Sapele, Delta State, the former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, maintained that the president-elect, Gen. Buhari and the incumbent president, Dr. Jonathan deserved to be congratulated  because the atmosphere that brought about change of leadership was cordial.

He said that if that cordiality was maintained it would engender peace throughout the country, before and after the handing over, noting that the action of President Jonathan has brought dignity to the entire process of the election.

The elder statesman, however, advised Buhari to be magnanimous in victory and bring out his wealth of experience to bear in his leadership of the country.
