An aviation expert, Mr Kolawole Olayinka, on Thursday in Lagos said the Nigerian aviation sector impact on the economy was not being adequately maximised. Olayinka, who is the British Airways, West Africa Regional Commercial Manager, made the assertion in a lecture titled “Aviation in Nigeria: Opportunities and Challenges’’. In the lecture organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, Olayinka said the impact of the nation’s aviation industry contributed in new employments, increased investment opportunities, tourism and hospitality development.

A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced a driver, Chukwuma Okeke, 27, to one year imprisonment for abducting a 15-year-old girl from his employer’s house. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Soladoye, jailed Okeke following a plea of guilt by him. “Based on the facts of this case, confirmed reports and the plea for leniency, I hereby, sentence you to one year imprisonment without an option of fine,” Soladoye ruled. The convict was arraigned on April 8.

United States has spoken of its readiness to support President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to rescue the over 200 girls seized by Boko Haram militants from Chibok school in Borno State one year ago.

The U.S Vice President, Mr Joe Biden, on Thursday urged the President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to continue to foster a smooth, inclusive and peaceful transition with President Goodluck Jonathan. A statement issued by the U.S Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria said that Biden made the appeal when he personally called Buhari to congratulate him on his victory at the poll.
