THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial aspirant, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has assured Lagosians that if elected, his government will focus more on basic primary education. He disclosed this at the Charloedony School family fun day celebration in Lagos. He noted that: “In Lagos State more of our children are failing O’ levels, there are more stuents failing than those that are passing, for that reason government must accept responsibility that there is something wrong with our education.

You also find out that government hasn’t paid enough emphasis on primary education, so our children don’t have good foundation so when they get up the ladder they cannot really cope with the world”. This is the reason government must re-emphasize primary education of our children, because that the real foundation for any child. “We will also open up technical and vocational education to empower our children with necessary vocational skills that make them competitive. The whole new world has taken technical and vocational skills at different levels”.

According to Charloedony School Head, Mrs Gbemi Olowookere, the idea is to have one day every year where the whole family comes together and has fun. It is not just an event for children alone, it is for their parents, cousins, neighbours etc. Parents have the opportunity to network with other parents and exchange ideas. We operate an open door policy where parents can talk to the teachers of their children at any time so this enhances their relationship. The children are done with academic work and exams this like an encouragement for a successful session”.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of this parent’s committee, Enitan Jones said we believe that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy and we believe that the eevent helps in terms of social interaction because it is not limited to students alone. It is also a time to reunite with old students who have passed out and this helps to bond with the children. It is a day dedicated to celebrate our children, parents teachers and everyone around us. We make sure that everybody is comfortable, and they really enjoyed themselves.

This year the organisers introduced a mini trade fair. The highlight of the event was a raffle draw where the winner of the raffle draw gets a trip to Dubai. Other winners also received consolation prizes. The events which was fun filled had various school games, fun, presentations, dancing competition, teachers talent hunt, grandparents dance, family show and tug of war and a raffle draw.
