Man docked over $700,000 robbery

A 27-year-old man, Onyema Chukwu, has been charged before an Ikeja Magistrate’s court in Lagos for allegedly robbing one Alhaji Alkali Alhammed of his $700,000.

The accused was said to have committed the offence at Volkswagen area of Lagos, while armed with an AK-47 rifle loaded with sixty rounds of ammunition.

Chukwu was arraigned by the police on a two-court charge of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the charge, Onyema Chukwu and others did arm themselves with one AK-47 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition and stole $700,000 from one Alhaji Alkali Alhammed.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Chinanu Uwadione, informed the court that the offence was contrary to Section 5(b) and punishable under Section 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap.398 vol.XX11 of the federation of Nigeria 1990, as amended.

When the charge was read to the accused before Magistrate O. A. Akinde, he pleaded not guilty.

However, the magistrate rejected the plea pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, and adjourned till May 11.
