UGHELLI—THE election for Delta Central senatorial district held last week Saturday, has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer, Prof. Greg Okagbare.

Declaring the election inconclusive, Prof Okagbare, who addressed newsmen at the INEC office, Ughelli, said: “Having looked at the total number of wards in the various local government areas cancelled, it is impossible for me to declare a winner in the election.

“I can’t say what areas are inconclusive for now, but I will file my report and send to the office (INEC office, Asaba) and the office will furnish all the parties involved all the needed information.”

In his remark, the Labour Party, LP candidate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, who alleged  a grand conspiracy by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to outwit him via result falsification, said: “I am disappointed in the position of INEC because I am supposed to be declared winner of this election.

“PDP tried to make away with the votes given to me by the Urhobo nation but we have been able to reassure the Urhobo people that it is not business as usual, we will surely protect their votes in all the elections. For now, we will go back to the drawing board and restrategise on what is ahead.”

On his part, the PDP candidate, Chief Ighoyota Amori, who accepted the verdict by the Returning Officer, said: “I commend the INEC officials for the meticulous manner they have handled the entire collation process. Whenever the re-run is called, we will be ready.”

Meanwhile, the result of the National Assembly election for Burutu federal constituency has been declared by INEC.
