Lagos—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday commissioned the newly rehabilitated 2 kilometer Wempco road, Ogba, even as he vowed to inspect and commission developmental projects till May 28, a day before the end of his administration.

Fashola, who made the vow after inspecting the ongoing Ilubirin Housing Estate, Lagos Island, said his aim is to deliver projects and facilities that would improve standard of living of Lagosians.

On the reason for this, the governor explained that the residents of the state who voted him expected continuous provision of infrastructures, saying “this was why we have rehabilitated and upgrade the Wempco road as a response to the problem of flooding in this area.”

He added that the road was also upgraded to a dual carriage way to solve the problem of gridlock experienced by users.

The governor explained that government’s intervention, the road was always flooded whenever it rained, resulting in chaotic traffic situation and loss of property worth several millions.

According to him, “We rebuilt the road to solve two problems; a flooding problem which required us to construct very massive underground drainages that are almost two metres wide and deep. Congestion problem at peak period when people are returning home, so with the completion of this road, these problems are over.”

The governor said the road was built to last for 25 years and advised users against acts that could undermine its durability.
