ABEOKUTA – Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has expressed optimism that the emergence of an All Progressives Congress, APC- led Federal Government under General Mohammadu Buhari would soar the fortunes of the Gateway State.
Amosun, during a live broadcast yesterday, expressed gratitude to the people of the state for voting massively for Buhari and also assured that the new leader would initiate series of positive changes that will bring development, security and prosperity to all Nigerians.
He urged the people of the state to also vote for him and other APC candidates at the April 11 governorship and House of Assembly elections to further consolidate the achievements of his administration, “particularly now that our efforts, goals and programmes will enjoy maximum support and endorsement from the APC controlled Federal Government.”
Meantime, the state government has announced the resumption of payment of salary deductions and cooperative dues with the sum of N1.5 billion released today. This payment covers deductions from salaries affecting both state and local government workers.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the release was in fulfillment of the agreement reached between the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the workers during an interactive session held last month.
Prior to the downturn in Federal Allocation and the general economy, the State Government had been remitting salary deductions as and when due and had even cleared arrears inherited from the past admnistration. However, the suddeness of recent downturn adversely affected both the Federal Allocation and internally Generated Revenue, thereby creating fresh arrears.
