LAGOS—Lagos State Government has concluded plans to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court which cancelled restriction of movement during the monthly sanitation exercise in the state. This came 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, presided over by Justice Mohammed Idris, nullified the restriction of movement during the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, disclosed this yesterday, describing the judgment as unjust, even as he said that the government would immediately challenge it at the Appeal Court.
The policy of the Lagos State Government restricts citizens to their homes for three hours between 7am and 10am every last Saturday of the month to clean their premises. It will be recalled that the state government reintroduced the monthly sanitation in 2013, to address the poor sanitary habits of Lagos residents. According to him, “We are of course not satisfied with the decision of the Federal High Court looking at the density of Lagos being the highest in Nigeria.”
