BENIN—THE Police and other security agencies in Edo State, determined to ensure free, fair and non- violence election, weekend, staged what they termed, ‘Show of force’ exercise.
The demonstration, led by Garrison commander, Lt Col Amatso, began at 9.30 a.m., and ended about 5p.m.
Army Public Relations Officer, Captain Abubakar Abdullahi, told journalists in Benin, weekend, that the exercise was aimed at letting the public know their readiness towards ensuring free and fair elections and demonstrate the unity among the security agencies in the state.
He added that it was also to encourage the populace to feel free and safe to exercise their constitutional rights of voting and being voted for without harassment or intimidation.
“What is going on today (yesterday) is a show of force, a way of demonstrating our preparedness for free, fair, peaceful and credible elections. It is meant to show the level of unity existing among the security agencies in Edo State and how we will work together to ensure we have violence-free elections.
“As you can see, we have men from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Air Force, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Prison Services, and numerous others. They are all here.”
