ABEOKUTA—Hundreds of protesters from three local government areas in Ogun State, yesterday, stormed the state headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abeoku-ta, over failure to get their permanent voter’s cards, PVCs.

The protesters were from Yewa North, Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Government areas.

One of the protesters, a medical doctor and a three-time former commissioner, Mr. Isiak Salako, said: “I led my people from Yewa North, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas.

“Over 60,000 of us will be denied our constitutional right to vote in the forthcoming elections, as we do not have our permanent voter’s cards.”

Addressing the protesters, Head of General Administration and Procurement, INEC, Ogun State, Mr. Olatoye Olufemi, said: “At the moment, we have sent our official to Abuja to collect outstanding PVCs.

“The commission here in Ogun State has been able to distribute over 70 percent of the total number of PVCs received from Abuja, but we are still expecting more.”
Meanwhile, at 5.07p.m., yesterday, the state was still expecting the balance of 153,185 PVCs from Abuja.

The total registered voters are 1,795,794, while the number received from Abuja so far is 1,642,607.
