MCFR condemns political violence in Abia

By Eric Ugbor
ABA—A group, Movement for Credible and Free Elections, MCFR, has condemned recent violent clashes among political parties and their supporters in Ikwuano and Obingwa Local Government areas in Abia State.

State coordinator of the group, Mr. Henry Nwankwo, who spoke to journalists in Aba yesterday, said the ugly trend portended doom for the nation’s democracy.

Nwankwo berated youths in the state for allowing themselves to be used as tools by self-seeking politicians to achieve their motives and wondered why youths, who should play positively-active roles for change in the society, would allow themselves to be used as thugs and criminals for politicians.

He condemned last Sunday’s attack on the senatorial candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Abia South senatorial zone, Chief Chris Nkwonta, at Obingwa council.

Chief Nkwonta was attacked by suspected political thugs at Apostolic Christian Church, Obinze, in Obingwa Local Government Area, when hoodlums allegedly supporting a particular candidate went on rampage.
