Leave Eagles alone, Erico, Esu advise Keshi

AS the controversy involving the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and out of contract Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi over the renewal of the latter’s contract rages on, former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Joe Erico and Crown FC of Ogbomosho Coach, Godfrey Esu have urged Keshi to throw in the towel if he’s not happy with the terms of contract.

Last week, Keshi acknowledged receipt of a new contract from the NFF and was however angry with its contents and subsequently described it as a ‘slave contract’.

The Big Boss was unhappy with several clauses inserted in the deal and duly went on to voice his sentiments.

It is still not clear if Keshi will accept the deal or whether the NFF would seek an alternative coach for the Super Eagles.

The seeming impasse between the NFF and Keshi has predictably divided public opinion but former national team keeper, Erico and Esu want the matter settled amicably to move the national team forward.

Both coaches spoke differently to Sports Vanguard on the rancour surrounding the Eagles coaching job, but jibed the NFF and advised Keshi to come out with a decision after taking a deep look into the contract terms.

Said Erico “It’s quite disheartening the scenario surrounding Keshi’s contract with NFF because, I think

the new NFF took a very harsh and wrong step at the very initial stage as their first pronouncement was to sack Keshi. I don’t know what they had at the back of their minds and it’s backfiring now. But with the rancour surrounding his contract, Keshi should take a deep look into the whole scenario and make up his mind.

In his opinion, Coach Esu summed it up, “the manner NFF treated Keshi was not right. If we could give a foreigner (Clemence Westerhof) four years to coach our national team, then Keshi deserves a good measure, but if what he is offered is not okay by him, he should walk away”, said Esu.
