UMUAHIA—IN readiness for the March 28 and April 11 election, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abia State has received 3, 233 cardrReaders for the polls, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Selina Oko, has disclosed.

Prof. Oko also denied the rumoured revolt by some INEC’s resident electoral commissioners, RECs, against the chairman of the commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, saying there were no such thing in the commission.

Oko, who disclosed this to journalists in her office, weekend, said the commission actually needed 3,187 card readers, while the excess 46 were back-ups.

“It is surprising to read from the media that some state Resident Electoral commissioners are plotting to pass a vote of no confidence on the chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as a prelude to removing him from office.

“This, definitely, does not apply to this state and the meeting of RECs with the chairman referred to by this media report is essentially to assess the state of preparedness of the state offices of the commission for the elections and has absolutely no other agenda, hence the need to debunk this notion in its entirety,” Prof. Oko said.

On the distribution of permanent voters’ cards, PVCs, she said the state has distributed a total of 1, 146, 087 PVCs of the 1, 353, 948 PVCs received in the state.
