The Friends of Oronto Douglas support Group for Jonathan in South-West has described the geopolitical zone as a dependable ally since independence.
In a release by its Coordina-tor, Miss Linda Oyawerikumo in Lagos, the group said South-West benefited from South-South’s cooperation during former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s era.
It said: “The Goodluck Jonathan Presidency was the fulfilment of the vision of late Obafemi Awolowo that one day an Ijaw man will lead this country. This was confirmed to this nation by Chief Ebenezer Babatope, one of Awolowo’s disciples during his lecture last year in Yenagoa to mark the creation of the state.
“South-South was one of the leading lights that fought against the annulment of June 12. Many of our leaders like Frank Kokori, Dr. Agamene and Oronto Douglas fought against the June 12 injustice even at the risk of their lives.
“We know the progressives are with us in this struggle to vote the South-South for another four years.”
The group assured that in the next four years, President Jonathan would give equal treatment to all zones.
“The achievements of the President in the last four years are abvious and with the security situation in check, the economy will improve and job creation for youths will be the priority of the government in the next four years.”
