PORT HARCOURT— RIVERS State Government has denied allegation by People Democratic Party, PDP, that it was owing local government staff two months salaries.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Mr. Samuel Eyiba, who spoke in Port Harcourt, weekend, said all council staff had been paid.

Meanwhile, Chairman of PDP in the state, Mr. Felix Obuah, alleged in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Jerry Needam, that council staff had not been paid for two months, adding that the state government also withheld councils’ allocation for December and January.

He said: “The continued withholding of salaries of council workers in the state shows that All Progressives Congress, APC, has no regard for the welfare of workers and the people of the state.”

Obuah also frowned at the running of the councils in Rivers State by Caretaker Committees, whose tenures expired in November 2014 and had neither been renewed nor new members inaugurated.

“Governor Rotimi Amaechi, by this act, has shown that he does not respect the law and the people, and cannot also be trusted with positions of trust,” Obuah added.
