OSOGBO—The ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Osun State and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, traded accusations following series of attacks on their members in Ijesaland.
There were reported attacks on supporters of both parties in Iperindo, Ilesa and other parts of Ijesaland shortly after the tribunal re-confirmed Governor Rauf Aregbesola the winner of August 9, gubernatorial poll.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, yesterday, the spokesperson of the Fadahunshi Campaign Organisation, Sola Olawoye, dismissed claims that PDP candidate for Osun East senatorial, Prince Francis Fadahunshi, was behind the spate of attacks on the APC members.
Olowoye said apart from Fadahunshi having no such antecedents, the allegations were borne out malice or ignorance of the character of the PDP candidate, stressing that the reality on ground shows that the PDP candidate was winning the senatorial election.
He added that those accusing Fadahunshi were keeping hoodlums to use them against perceived opposition members and were merely making baseless allegations, alleging that all APC elective office holders in Ijesaland have resolved to perpetrate large scale violence and pin it on PDP members.
However, the APC, Osun state chapter, in a statement by its campaign coordinator for Ijesa South federal constituency, Idowu Korede, insisted that PDP was harbouring miscreants that have carried repeated attacks on APC members in the area.
The party said billboards and posters of candidates contesting both National and State Assemblies elections, were being vandalised by hoodlums working for PDP.
