As the fire stoked by the two feuding communities, Ijaw and Itsekiri, continues to burn over the postponement of the ground breaking inauguration of the EPZ by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Ogwa of Warri Kingdom and former Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Roland Lere Oritsejafor, has advised them to sheath their swords and embrace the olive branch.
Oritsejafor, who made this declaration in an interview with Sunday Vanguard, warned that should the Ijaw, Itsekiri persist in their hardline posture, the gigantic project expected to usher in economic prosperity to the religion may slip through their fingers.
The former minister said the president’s decision to postpone the commissioning of the EPZ project may not be unconnected with imminent security challenge posed by the hard line stance of both communities over the location of the project.
“Before the president took the decision to postpone the commissioning of the EPZ project, he may have received negative security reports from security experts. The effect of what comes during and after the launch may have prompted his decision”, he said.
He, however appealed to leader of both sides of the divide to embrace peace in order to enjoy the inherent economic benefits of the EPZ projects.
