The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Tony Nnachetta has debunked claims that he was interested in contesting for the chairmanship of the state football association in an election holding later this month.
Reacting to allegations made by the outgoing Anambra State FA chairman, Chief Mike Umeh, that he (Nnachetta) was ready to stop him from contesting because of his personal interest, Nnachetta said, “Umeh had problems with members of his board.
He has a board that is revolting against him. They said he has been there for 15 years and he has not been able to organise one event. Umeh should go back to his board and talk to them. The list of allegations against him is long; they said he has not called one meeting for the past two years.
“The board members are angry that he has not been able to bring in one sponsor or do anything to change the fortunes of football in the state. And that he has not achieved anything for 15 years.”
Nnachetta, a former first vice chairman of the Nigeria Football Association between 1990-92, said, “It is not about me. I was a member of the Nigeria Football Association decades ago. And I don’t think I would be infringing on any law if I wanted to contest for the Anambra State FA election. It is not about me. You can talk to his board members. Call them.”
The commissioner said he was not interested the FA election and if Umeh had any issues, “it is with his board members
