Warri—An Itsekiri pressure group under the aegis of Iwere Progressive Forum, has pleaded that the crisis rocking the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, be quickly nipped in the bud for Delta State to be liberated from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement released to newsmen in Warri, the group, through its convener, Mr. Elijah Egberekomi, expressed worry that a disunited Urhobo land will only serve the purposes of PDP to keep Delta State under its clutches for another eight years if not more to the detriment of the masses.
According to Egberekomi, “We the Itsekiris, having been completely humiliated by the PDP, have been hoping for a united Urhobo front with a truly detribalized Deltan that we can all rally round for the liberation of our state. Whereas we have no right to tell Urhobos who their leader should be, we are proud to say that O’tega Emerhor of All Progressives Congress, APC, is a detribalized Deltan we feel quite comfortable with and are willing to vote in as our next governor.
“We, therefore, find it to be quite traumatic that the UPU, hitherto the most united socio-cultural body in Delta State appears to have been infiltrated by PDP with the last hope of Deltans reclaiming our state from PDP slipping away.”
