BENIN—EDO State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned those responsible for the defacing and removal of its presidential candidate’s posters, President Goodluck Jonathan from the streets of Benin to desist forthwith, describing their action as undemocratic and unnecessary.
“We received reports that certain people were defacing and removing posters of PDP and those of President Jonathan from the streets of Benin. I appeal to those responsible to desist from doing so. Whether the posters are removed or not, the people of Edo State will vote according to their conscience.
“You can see that as a responsible and democratic party, we placed our posters along with those of the presidential candidates of other parties and that shows how liberal we are,” said state Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, while addressing journalists in Benin, yesterday.
The party also denied a statement allegedly credited to Governor Adams Oshiomhole that it hired crowds from the neigbouring states of Anambra, Ondo and Kogi to its presidential rally in the state.
