Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has urged oil marketers to comply with the new pump price of petrol of N87 per litre.

NUPENG, in a statement by its President, Mr. Igwe Achese, noted that it noticed that most of the filling stations were still dispensing fuel at the old rate of N97 per litre or not selling fuel at all.

It said: “It amounts to total disservice for the oil marketers to continue to sell fuel at the old rate, thus exploiting the consumers.”

NUPENG, however, commended the Federal Government for bringing down the price of petroleum products in line with the falling prices of crude oil in the international market.

It called on the Federal Government to put other measures in place to cushion the inflationary effects of the fall in crude oil price.

The union enjoined government to speed up the Turn-Around-Maintenance, TAM, of the nation’s four refineries, instead of the dependence on massive importation of petroleum products that was depleting the scare foreign exchange.

NUPENG also called on the Federal Government to establish more refineries and encourage private developers to do same.
