LAGOS—A NON-ALIGNED organisation, Build A Nation Initiative, BAN has cautioned the Presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan, and General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, not to let the recent peace pact signed between them, plunge the country into crisis, as was the case with the aftermath of the 1967 Aburi Accord.
Making the call in Lagos, spokesperson of BAN, Emmanuel Ehiemua said agreement for violence-free election by the two presidential aspirants, brought to mind the Yakubu Gowon regime and Ojukwu Aburi Accord conference which was eventually broken and led to civil war.
He said: “When I see that Nigeria is heading in that same perilous direction, it creates anxiety in me. Since independence in 1960, Nigeria has been experiencing incessant leadership crises. Promises have been made and broken and we can’t even tell which direction we are going now.”
