THE police in Edo State, yesterday, arrested 27 suspected cultists alleged to be involved in the killing of about 15 persons across the state in the past two months in rival cult war.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that the suspects were arrested around Upper Mission area of Benin-City at about 11am by detectives.
The rival war between the Eiye and Aye confraternities in the Edo State capital has claimed not less than 15 lives in the past two months.
Consequently, it was learnt that the state Police Commissioner, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, detailed detectives across the state with a view to bursting the suspected cultists.
The detectives were said to have stormed the house where the alleged cultists were holding a meeting yesterday at Upper Mission and arrested them with cache of arms and other dangerous weapons.
A reliable source at the Edo police headquarters confirmed their arrest, saying however: “We don’t want to react yet because we are still rounding them up. Many will still be arrested”.
