ASABA— PROVOST of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Delta State, Dr Ignatius Ezoem, has decried the quality of teachers being produced in the country and stressed the need for the upgrade of Nigeria’s education standard.
Speaking with newsmen in his office, Ezoem lamented that the teaching profession has “quantitatively improved” but it has not improved in terms of “quality.”
Blaming the problem on the declining reading culture of students, he said students have resorted to “sorting” rather than reading to pass their exams. On what they were doing to curb it, he said “we organise workshops to set a new paradigm for teachers.”
Noting that he has a good team of management staff in the college, Ezoem said discipline of students and staff was the order of the day at the college.
