ABUJA — The Federal Government has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to reconnect troubled Borno State to the national grid.

Minister of State for Power, Mallam Mohammed Wakil, who handed the ultimatum after a marathon meeting with TCN officials on the black-out in the state, insisted that Maiduguri must be reconnected, irrespective of the security and sabotage challenges facing the state.

The minister, however, disbanded the Technical Committee on Reconnection, TCR, an Ad-Hoc Committee charged with the responsibility of supervising electricity matters in the wake of Boko Haram crisis.

Wakil also directed the TCN to speed up work on the 330/132/33kv sub station in Damaturu which, when completed, would improve quality of supply to Borno and Yobe, declaring that “Borno should have three sources of power supply from the national grid.”
