Parents’ Forum of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has appealed to the state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to immediately reopen the Ikire campus of the institution as ‘a second term gift’ for the affected students.
The Ikire campus of the university had remained closed since 15th of August, 2014 following violent demonstration on the campus by students of the institution which led to the looting and destruction of valuable property of the school.
Chairman of the forum, Justice Oyejide Falola, at a special meeting of the forum held at the University’s main auditorium, Osogbo, appealed to Aregbesola to reopen the campus.
The meeting was convened to discuss momentary issues bothering on the campus’ reopening, the University students’ welfare as well as the development of the University.
Justice Falola, who expressed deep regret over the protracted closure of the institution, called on parents to prevail on the governor to approve the proposed reopening of the campus without further delay.
Hundred of parents and students representatives across the six campuses of the institution including the president elect, Abubakar Abdul-Basit of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, attended the interactive meeting.
The meeting, which lasted for three hours, also called on the school’s management to, aside from accessing the damaged properties, probe the incident that led to the campus crisis so as to bring the mastermind of the crisis to book.
“The only issue now is the amount to be paid for damages as the management has sent another proposal to the governor but he insisted that some amendment must be made. This is the only issue and it would be resolved within the next few hours.” Justice Falola added.
