Operatives at Udi division of the Enugu State Police command in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch Group in the early hours of December 22, during routine surveillance and patrol, killed two notorious armed robbery kingpins who had been terrorizing commuters passing through Udi-Ozalla road while other members of the gang believed to have been injured by the operatives’ bullets fled with injuries.
It was gathered that the two deceased, yet-to-be identified, met their waterloo as they attempted to rob a commercial bus loaded with some passengers.
Police Spokesperson, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident in a release to newsmen saying,”the operatives have constantly kept the road under strict surveillance because of the suspected nefarious activities of the hoodlums.
“Recovered from the robbers were one pump action gun with seven live cartridges,two daggers,one long matchet,4 Nokia phones, assorted charms and some amount of money.
“Their corpses have been deposited at the nearby hospital mortuary just as search for the fleeing members of the gang intensified.”
In a related development,operatives of the No 3 mobile police command on stop and search duty at Ozalla point along Enugu-Port-Harcourt expressway have nabbed a suspect who gave his name as one Peter Igwe of Amechi,Awkunanaw Enugu-South Local Government Area for allegedly stealing one Chevrolet express bus with registration number ENU 815 JW from where it was parked at Okpara Square axis Enugu state in the early hours of December 20.

The suspect was nabbed by the operatives following a tip-off received by the operatives.
A full scale investigation has commenced into the incident as the suspect is helping the police to unravel other crimes he had committed in the past.
