PDP, Ayogu Eze trade words over alleged forgery

IN another development, Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Senator Ayogu Eze, yesterday traded words over alleged forgery of the party’s December 8, 2014 governorship primaries result sheet.

While the PDP petitioned the State Police Commissioner, accusing Senator Eze of forging its December 8, 2014 governorship primary election result sheet, Senate Eze described the allegation as wild and contempt of the court.

In a petition dated December 17, 2014 by its Chairman, Mr. Ikeje Asogwa, claimed the Senator was plotting to truncate the party’s successful primary election in the state with forged documents.

According to the petition  “The Peoples Democratic Party Primary election to elect a Governorship flag bearer for Enugu State took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu on December 8, 2014. The party, from the National headquarters, appointed a five-man electoral committee to conduct the primaries for the election of the Governorship candidate for Enugu State.

The members of the panel were King Asara A. Asara (Chairman), Barrister Ukpai Ukairo (Secretary), Barrister Saratu Umar, Engr. Alamu Adeyemi and myself as the State Chairman of the party. The members came with the official result sheets from the party headquarters, as well as the ballot papers and other materials required to conduct the primary election.

At the end of the electoral exercise, the members issued a result of the election wherein they returned Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as having won the election.

“Surprisingly, Senator Ayogu Eze who was a candidate at the said primary election has now uttered a result purporting same to be the result of the said primary election of December 8, 2014.    The said result was produced on a forged result sheet purporting same to be the result sheet of the PDP. I hereby enclose the original result sheet of the party, which has the name of the party, the logo of the party, the address of the national Secretariat and the serial number of the result sheet issued out to the panel, the signatures of the National Chairman, the National Secretary, the National Organizing Secretary, the returning officer and the Electoral Officer. I mark same as Annexure I.

“I also annex as Annexure 2, the purported result of the primary election written on the furged result sheet purporting same to be the result sheet of the party. A look at this Annexure 2 will show that it does not contain the essentials of the authentic result sheet of the party as enumerated above.”

Chairman further told the police that Senator Eze allegedly uttered the forged document and used same in the processes he filed at the Federal High Court Abuja and urged the police authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary steps to “arrest and prosecute Senator Ayogu Eze for the uttering and forgery of PDP Result sheet in accordance with the dictates of the law

But Eze reacting through Senator Ayogu Eze Governorship Campaign Organisation, in a statement, titled, “Who’s afraid of Senator Ayogu Eze”, insisted that its candidate was the duly elected candidate in the December 8, 2014 primary.

Saying that its candidate was elected by the authentic delegates elected on November 1, 2014 and validated by an Abuja High Court, the organisation wondered why the PDP in Enugu State rushed to court on December 9, a day after the primary to stop its candidate from parading himself as the candidate.

“Why did they rush to court to stop our candidate if they truly believe the result of the election was forged?” the organisation asked in the statement signed by its Director of Legal Services, Mr. Kingsley Onyeke.

The organisation claimed the panel that conducted the kangaroo primary that Mr. Asogwa referred to in his  statement admitted in the full glare of the press that it came with a forged delegates list.

“It is the likes of Mr. Asogwa and all the people involved in subverting the will of the people by forging a delegates list after the PDP in Enugu State had told the whole world it did not participate in the congress that brought the delegates that should be handed over to the police”, the statement said.

Describing the allegation by Ikeje Asogwa, who the organisation said was not the chairman of the PDP in Enugu State, as part of the desperate campaign to intimidate its candidate out of the 2015 governorship race in Enugu State, the statement said its candidate would never succumb to blackmail.

“Our candidate is determined to unfold his programme of physical transformation and spiritual rebirth for the people of Enugu State and no threat or blackmail will take him off that course “, the organisation said.

The organisation said it was refraining from going into details in its response since the matter under discussion was a subject of litigation at an Enugu State High Court as well as a Federal High Court in Abuja.

It described Mr. Asogwa’s misguided allegation as an affront on the judiciary, which it said is the only institution that can make a pronouncement on the matter as it stands now.
