PDP: 3 winners emerge in Nnewi/ Ekwusigo constituency primaries

By Vincent Ujumadu & Nwabueze Okonkwo

AWKA— THREE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirants for the House of Representatives, Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State, have declared themselves winners in parallel primaries conducted at three venues in Nnewi.

This came as supporters of Afam Ogene, the incumbent member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, are threatening to vote against All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, over alleged distortion of ward delegate congress lists in the constituency.

For the exercise that held at Nnewi Youth League Hall, Mr. Julius Oforma was announced winner with 121 votes.

Another exercise at Anaedo Social Club, Nnewi, the incumbent member of House of Representatives for the area, Chief Chris Azubougu, was declared winner with 105 votes out of the total 123 votes cast, while at Kings Palace Hotel, Nnewi, the third aspirant, Dr. Harry Ohanezi, was declared winner.

In all three venues, no election materials were used and it was unclear who authorized those who described themselves as the returning officers to conduct the exercise.

… as Ogene’s supporters threaten APGA

Meanwhile, the threat by supporters of Afam Ogene came after APGA committee declared the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Chinwe Nwaebili, winner of last Thursday’s APGA House of Representatives primaries held at the Onitsha Holiday Resort, Okpoko.

The result of the primaries showed that Nwaebili scored 59 votes to defeat Ogene, who polled 16 votes.

The aggrieved supporters said either Ogene defects to another party to contest his second tenure election or they would vote votes against APGA, claiming the names of all the delegates elected the previous week at the ward delegate congress to vote for any aspirant of their choice were replaced with new names who did not even buy forms for the congress.

Calling for the outright cancellation of the results and repeat of the exercise with the authentic lists of ward delegates, the supporters who complained that they bought forms for N5,000 to contest the delegate congress, wondered why a new list was imported into the primary arena.
