Lagos— In a bid to fight crime effectively, the Lagos State Police Command Tuesday appealed to residents to volunteer information to the police.
“They should report crimes at the nearest police station to make crime-fighting easier for the police.
“Lagosians should not hesitate to give information on crimes,” Mr Kenneth Nwosu, the command’s spokesman, said in Lagos.
He spoke against the backdrop of reports of robberies at different spots in the state.
“It is when they brief or inform the police on any crime that further steps can be taken to fight and control it.”
Nwosu said reported crimes had always helped police in their investigations.
According to him, reports had helped police’s quick intervention and response to crimes being committed.
The police spokesman assured the people of the combat readiness of the command to rid the state of crimes and protect lives and property.
NURTW boss seeks passengers’ support
Meantime, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Lagos State chapter, yesterday urged passengers to support the union to ensure safety on roads and at motor parks during the New Year.
The state’s chairman of the union, Mr Tajudeen Agbede, said that passengers should be security conscious to complement efforts of the union.
Agbede called on passengers to report all questionable luggage and personalities to the union’s security officers.
According to him, the union has appointed security officers for parks to ensure security.
“The union has appointed a Chief Security Officer in each of its units across the state to beef up security so as to prevent sad incidents.
“ We have trained all our security officers across units to ensure protection of lives and property in parks all over the state.
“After all these, we need the support of all our customers to be vigilant too, reporting all questionable movements and luggage,” the NURTW chairman said.
