Imo APGA crisis deepens as factional chirman cancels gov primaries

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA—THERE seems to be no end in sight to the crisis rocking the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, as a claimant to the national chairman of the party, Chief Chris Ejike Uche, yesterday, in Umuahia, announced the cancellation of the parallel governorship primaries held in Imo State, which produced two candidates.

Uche, who claimed he had assumed the position of the Acting National Chairman of APGA, said fresh primaries would hold today in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

He also dismissed the Abia State primaries that produced Dr. Alex Otti, saying Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, was the party’s candidate in the state.

Chief Uche who said the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party mandated him to take over the leadership of the party in acting capacity, claimed that Chief Victor Umeh’s tenure elapsed on December 1st, 2014.

According to him, Dr. Otti just joined the party and was not qualified to be given the party’s governorship flag, yet he admitted that he contested in the primaries with Ufomba.

But Otti’s camp had since continued to forge ahead with preparation to launch its governorship campaign in the state as it accused Uche of being used by unnamed individuals to cause trouble in APGA.

On his plan to conduct fresh primaries in Imo State, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, who had been elected to fly APGA flag in the state, dismissed it as none issue.

In a chat, Iheanacho urged the people of the state especially APGA members to ignore Uche and his group who he said “are parading themselves as APGA leaders which they are not”.
