Friends of late Okadaman demand justice

By Ifeanyi Okolie

Friends and colleagues of 37-year-old man, Ahmed Ojoola, who was allegedly shot dead by a Naval officer attached to the Ops Messa, at Mile 2 area of Lagos State, are demanding that his killers be brought to justice.

Ojoola, who is a staff of the Motorcycle Operators Association, a section of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, met his untimely death penultimate Friday, when a naval rating, whose identity is yet unknown, shot into a crowd at Durbar Junction Mile 2, killing Ojoola.

One of his colleagues, Amolwo Ojofure, told Vanguard that Ojoola had just finished having his lunch when he was killed.

He said: “He sat on the culvert opposite Durbar Junction and was drinking water after his meal when a bullet struck him on the back and he slumped. I was in my office when I heard the gunshot and I did not know it had killed one of my own.

“His killer, on realising what had happened, jumped into his Ops Messa pick-up van with number O22 and left the scene without showing concern.

“When we got to the scene, we discovered that Ojoola was dead and we contacted the police at Satellite Division, who came and removed his corpse to the morgue.”

An eyewitnesses, Taiwo Mustapha, said the Naval rating erroneously shot Ojoola as he had wanted to shoot a suspect, who escaped from the Ops Messa van.
