ASABA—Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has congratulated Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on his victory at Monday’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primaries in Asaba.

Similarly, former governorship aspirant in the state, Chief Andrew Warri, has described Okowa’s victory as victory for all Deltans.

Also, a chieftain of PDP in the state, Mr. Dom Okonma, has described Okowa’s victory as triumph of good over evil.

Uduaghan, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sunny Ogefere, described Okowa’s victory as well deserving. Okowa polled 406 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief David Edebvie, who scored 299 votes,

Governor Uduaghan, who is the leader of the PDP in the state, charged Okowa to demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship by quickly extending a hand of fellowship to other contestants.

He called on the other aspirants to note that the exercise was a family contest, where there was no winner no loser, urging them to join hands with Okowa in positioning the party for victory at the general elections.

He said: “Let all faithful members of our great party be reminded that now that a candidate has emerged, it is incumbent on us all to close ranks and work assiduously towards ensuring victory for the PDP in the general elections.

“I must also at this juncture commend the peaceful disposition displayed by all aspirants before and during the primaries. This is a testament to our peace and security agenda in the state.”

Chief Warri, who spoke to newsmen shortly after Okowa was declared as the PDP governorship flag bearer in the 2015 general elections, said Okowa’s emergence was a testament that “man is not God.”

Noting that Okowa worked for victory, Warri thanked the delegates and the people of the state for giving their mandate to the candidate, whom he described as a grassroots politician and a man of the masses.

Okonma in Asaba, yesterday, said: “Like Israel’s Moses, Okowa will lead the people of Delta State to great heights. His administration promises peace and prosperity for all Deltans. It is the dawn of a new era.

“Okowa will be governor of all the people of the state because he got votes in the primary election from across the divides.

“I enjoin the good people of Delta State to come out at the general elections and cast their votes for our amiable party flag bearer,” he added.
