Some prominent elders from Cross River State, under the aegis of Concerned Citizens of Cross River State, have applauded the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries in the state, describing them as free and fair.
The elders, in a statement in Abuja, yesterday, also advised those seeking to discredit the process to desist from such act.
“We the Concerned Citizens of Cross River State, hereby commend the just concluded rancour-free PDP primaries held in the state,” the statement said.
Commending the outcome of the entire process, the group observed that “Apart from the peaceful conduct of the primaries, which was in accordance with the party’s guidelines, the entire exercise revealed that the primaries were characterised by calmness and civility, making them free and fair.”
The statement, by Prof. Nicholas Damachi, Maurice Ekpang, Elder Lekam Okoi, Eyo Nsa Whiley and Elder I. Okim, urged those who lost out in the primaries to accept the outcome in the spirit of sportsmanship and allow peace to reign.
“We are aware of the activities by certain persons with a view to upturning the outcome of the transparent, hitch-free primaries. However, we are guided by the basic norms and values of democracy, premised on majority,” they said.
