Political pandemonium

Political pandemonium

Tambuwal and Goodluck Jonathan

Oh,what a tangled web we weave. When first,we practice to deceive – Sir Walter Scott

A healthy democracy requires a decent society; it requires that we are honourable, generous, tolerant and respectful.-Charles W. Pickering.

Hide nothing, for time, which sees all and hears all, exposes all.-Sophocles

Since the speaker of the House of Representatives,Aminu Tabuwal’s defection to the APC, there have been calls for the him to step down. In fact,it was not as polite as that.

Tambuwal and Goodluck Jonathan

Tambuwal and Goodluck Jonathan

The mega phones, the PR mouthpiece and the political knives were sharpened calling for the scalp of Tabuwal.  Political lynch mob is out to humiliate and sully the defector to submission; what do they do? Well, they removed his security details that is  what  they did.

The man had to drive himself to work!. It is disquieting that the police dances to tune of the big politicians. These lines are blurred when the police are used as muscle to strike fear into their Rivals.

Yes, Aminu Tambuwal walked across the floor of the house to join APC from PDP. This is not new and in fact, the man has done this couple of times in his political career but the furore that followed him this time is shocking. Shocking, that grown people are behaving like hoodlums and spoilt brats. They are chucking their rattles out their prams because they are not getting their way.  You would have thought that 2015 is the be all and end all for these desperadoes or is  it?.

The provision under the constitution is clear that any elected member would have to resign if he crosses the floor of  the house to another party unless, such action was a  result of  a division in his  original party.

That  sounds reasonable, you would think as the PDP have actually exploited this loophole in the past  when they took in three elected senators from Lagos state on the  very same ground of  said division  in  their  party.

In doing so, they have already set a dangerous precedent, I bet, they did not see that coming this time around and it is here to bite them in the derrière.

Crossing the floor is not new so why are they asking for his head? Tabuwal is an insider and he knows quite a lot. This must have shaken the inner sanctum of the PDP and it must have sent shivers indeed to the very core of the party faithful.

They are no longer at ease and so they have  every reason to  be  fearful.  So they  do  what they do best;send in the scribe to abuse the defector and ask for his head.tell the  party faithful he was not that important anyway.

Politics is a dirty game and one that is very close to the second oldest   profession, in fact sometimes you cannot tell them apart! In Nigeria, Politics is very dirty indeed and on a very different level compared to anywhere else in the world.

PDP are playing a very dirty game indeed and  they are changing the  goal post as they  go regardless, of  what  the  constitution states. The Nigerian constitution is clear that only the members of the House could chose a Speaker from whatever party and once they  are chosen they  need to serve the interest  of the House and impartial in discharging their duty.  Well,  this is Nigeria. It  does not work like that and both  parties are guilty of flouting the rules that guides the House or  any law for that matter.

So here we are,PDP want him out of the house and they  are looking  for  no less than  impeachment.   lawsuits are flying everywhere and suing  and  counter-suing. First round to Tambuwal ,he has been successful in the courts that stops the move for  PDP to make  such move.

It is now up to the President of the Senate, David Mark, who has promised to do everything in his power to defend the sovereignty of the legislature. That is a  big  task as the law makers are such rowdy lot  and they are out of  control.

Mr. Mark said ; “I want to assure all of you that I would do the needful, to protect and defend the legislature at all costs.

“I am therefore doing all that I can to resolve the current impasse,”

I  wish him the best of  luck but it is becoming a circus, when  adults should should know better trade insults and threats like candies are allowed to bring the integrity of the house to disrepute and there is no consequences.  What an example to our nation  and the world, our  law makers  are a rowdy and  unruly lot  who are not ashamed to use their fists and the police at  their  disposal.

Presently, according to  some insiders in  the house, the disgruntled PDP legislators are already hindering the optimal functioning of legislative duties.

It  is  shocking that in this day and age, we have people who should know better fighting tooth and nail regardless of  the  fact that the common man on the street has never  had it so bad.

I do not think in living memory we have had so  many badly behaved, uncouth, selfish and corrupt crop of  politicians largely  responsible  for  damaging the very  moral  fibre and common wealth as the present politicians.

So the deals and counter deals are made does not  make a change to  the quality of  life  of the common men, women  and children in  Nigeria.

We have never had it so bad in terms of our reputation and  all these law breakers want to do is to fight  and jostle for positions for  next  years.

Insiders have  already  confirmed that there will be more mass defections to  follow as the PDP stalwarts are angry  that GEJ intends  to stand  for a second term are upset because they believe Mr Jonathan intends to stand for a second term.

I hear many more scurry feet making it across the floor of the house. it is not  going to be  pretty, in fact take  cover.

Characteristics of a popular politician: a horrible voice, bad breeding, and a vulgar manner.-Aristophanes

From my  mail  box-I laughed when l read in your article of Sunday 26th Oct., advising Nigerians to vote with their conscience. Do you think they have not always done so, even from first republic days of Awo, where he is said to have scored zero in most constituencies in the north. As it was then, so it is now.

What do you think is the purpose of all the multi-billion pre-election rallies?

Can’t you recollect Governor Forum’s election, where some powerful interests upheld endorsement, rather than actual open voting captured on video? Will they ever accept a vote less than the almost 30 million endorsement claim?

So my sister, the problems are the conduct of the elections by biased officials backed by the uniformed services.Greetings. HMG

The young and the restless

I am sure that you have heard  it  all but  no one is talking  about the pledged that GEJ signed, sometime back to eradicate poverty  in  Nigeria by  2015.  Well, it is  not  going to happen  any time  soon is it?
