Vandals: Lawmaker commends Navy but…

By Lamidi Bamidele
The Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora and member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended the Nigerian Navy for arresting pipeline vandals in Majidun area of Ikorodu in Lagos.

In a statement yesterday, Abike Dabiri said while the role of the Navy in arresting pipeline vandals was commendable, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin should investigate allegation that his men were forcing motorists and other road users to load the jerry cans seized from the vandals into Navy trucks.

She also urged the naval boss to caution his men, whose activities had caused traffic congestion on Ikorodu road, lamenting that commuters spend several hours to get to their destinations.

She said residents had had to endure five days of blockade of the road as Naval officers led an operation, code-named AWATSE, to dislodge the vandals.
