Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) yesterday called on Nigerians to support the Super Eagles and Coach Stephen Keshi as they play away to Sudan in a must- win game this weekend in the African Nations Cup qualifier.
The Eagles are placed third with one point from two games and the opening day loss to Congo in the opening game has seriously dented Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for AFCON NEXT YEAR.
However, TAN through its sports coordinator, Waidi Akanni said that the Eagles can still make it to the AFCON if they get necessary backing from Nigerians. He stated that the defeat to Congo and the draw away to South Africa were minor setbacks that the Eagles have the wherewithal to overcome.
“I am sure that the fans are still sad over the Eagles display against Congo and South Africa, but as a body, we are sure that with the right support from the fans and the backing of the new executive board Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Eagles will qualify for the AFCON,” he stated.
Akanni noted that Keshi, who is still the coach of the team, needs all the support he can get to excel, stating that this is the time for true fans of the Eagles to give their unflinching support to the team.
The former International also called on the NFF to select people into its technical department based on competence instead of picking former internationals who might not been in tune with modern trend.
“The federation should get the best brains into the technical department. It should be populated with quality people who are ready to develop our football from the grassroots and not people whose only job is to harass the coach on Super Eagle’s team selection,” he noted.
