In its quest to encourage teachers in their profession, Ovie Brume Foundation, a non governmental organization, is set to reward teachers who have done well on the job.
Joining other nations of the world to celebrate world teachers day in October, the executive director of the foundation Mrs Iwaola Akin-Jimoh said that outstanding teachers will be handsomely rewarded to motivate them to give their best to our children.
When asked how the foundation will identify teachers who are doing well in the teaching profession, she explained that students at Eti-Osa Local Development Counci Area will be given opportunity to write a short essay about their teachers to nominate their best teacher.
According to her, Public schools in Eti-Osa are the main focus.
Explaining other things the foundation does, the executive director said it is mandated to bridge the gap between students in the public and private schools.
In order to achieve this, she said that a number of programmes were introduced since 2002 in memory of Oviehire Adeyemi Brume, the Nigerian Harvard product who died shortly he arrived Nigeria in 2002 at age 29.
Among others, the foundation is the initiator of The Barack Obama American Corner.
The Barack Obama American Corner, according to her, is an information resource centre established as a partnership between the United States Embassy andOvie Brume Foundation. It provides a wide range of free resources, including books, journals, reference materials, magazines and DVDs about the America society, culture and politics to the general public. The Corner also provides internet access and literacy related programmes. It is open to the public five days a week and is visited by over 300 people every month, she noted.
Besides she pointed out that the Barack Obama American Corner holds regular spelling bee contests to encourage and reward good spelling.
