Dutse -President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment in ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s airspace for the smooth operation of the air transport industry.
Jonathan gave the reassurance during the inauguration of Dutse International Airport in Jigawa, saying Nigeria had been rated high in category A in terms of the safety of airspace and would continue to sustain the rating.
He said accidents could occur but the government would do everything possible to prevent them.
He said that eight airports had been constructed in different parts of the country since the return of democracy in 1999.
The president commended Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa for his visionary leadership in building the airport.
“Airport brings development and I am pleased that Jigawa now has one.
“The Federal Government will give some financial support to the state government on this project, I will not announce the specific amount but it will be reasonable,” he said.
Jonathan said that the Federal Government had intervened in road projects in the state and in agriculture.
He said that he would continue to work with the Jigawa Government in providing the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
The president also lauded the effort of traditional rulers in ensuring peace in the state.
He expressed delight that in spite the insecurity in some parts of Northern Nigeria, the state had remained peaceful.
Jonathan laid the foundation stone of the airport on Nov. 6, 2012. (NAN)
