LAGOS—Members of Africa in Diaspora and Non Indigenes Cultural Association, have commended President Goodluck Jonathan over World Health Organisation, WHO’s, declaration of Nigeria as Ebola-free country, saying “it is a national achievement.”
The association also commended the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, which he said did very well in the containment of the scourge through its public enlightenment campaigns in the mass media.
The WHO had hailed Nigeria’s response to Ebola as a “spectacular success story”, saying every country should take note of how it handles the crisis.
Nigeria was declared Ebola-free on Monday by the World Health Organization, after 42 days without any new case of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.
In a statement, the National Chairman of the group, Peter C.J. Anigbogu, said: “Even as we celebrate this achievement, it also implies that Nigeria should sustain and step up preventive measures so that we will continue to remain Ebola-free. This declaration should not be seen as an opportunity to recline into passivity.”
He also lauded governments at all levels, stakeholders, Nigerians and international agencies for the success.
