ASABA—DELTA State Police Command, yesterday, assured the people of the state that tomorrow’s elections in the 25 local government areas of the state, would be hitch free, and advised youths to guard against political thuggery.

The command, in a statement by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Roland Preston, said: “The Delta State Police Command wishes to assure the people of the state that the command, in synergy with other security agencies, have mobilized adequate manpower for hitch-free local government elections tomorrow.

“The command also reiterates its appeal and warning to politicians in the state to play the game by the rules and be prepared to accept defeat in good faith as there must always be a winner and loser in every contest. Youths are warned not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs.

“The command has, therefore, imposed restriction of vehicular movements, except for those on essential duties, from 7a.m. to 3p.m. of Saturday (tomorrow).”

It said the measures became necessary to check trouble makers, adding “security operatives have been charged to deal ruthlessly with any person or group of persons who try fomenting trouble before, during and after the elections.”
