Anioma Congress, the apex socio-political organisation of Delta North senatorial district, Delta State, has denied media reports that it had endorsed a particular aspirant for the 2015 governorship position.
It noted that a section of the media, had last week created an erroneous impression that Anioma Congress endorsed a particular aspirant.
Secretary General of the group, Sir Dan Okenyi, in a statement, yesterday, said: “Anioma Congress, as the umbrella body for all the socio-cultural, political and economic organisations in the region, will play a fatherly role to all the aspirants and will not go out of its way to support any aspirant against the other.”
Okenyi said that the endorsement of aspirants by groups under the umbrella of Anioma Congress does not translate to the official position of the congress.
“What Anioma Congress has done is to screen the 24 aspirants that have shown interest for the office but some aspirants failed to attend. We examined the credentials of the aspirants, their experience, exposure, competence and acceptability beyond the nine local government areas of Delta North.
“Before the screening, we carried an opinion poll on the aspirants and the result of these efforts is to select three aspirants that have the best chances to clinch the ticket at the primaries of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, without prejudice to the internal selection mechanism of the party.”
In another development, the governorship aspirants from Delta North have expressed their commitment to the emergence of an Anioma son/daughter as governor of the state in 2015, irrespective of the party platform.
