Attack on Edo lawmaker: House Majority Leader, 5 others arraigned in court for alleged assault

THE Majority Leader of the Edo state House of Assembly, Mr. Philip Shaibu, Sunday Aghedo and three others were yesterday arraigned before the Oredo Magistrate Court on a two count charge of alleged assault on the member representing Etsako West constituency 1 in the state House of Assembly Mr. Abdul Rasaq Momoh.

Momoh’s seat was declared vacant by the House in July for defecting to the PDP. He was attacked after he scaled the perimeter fence of the House of Assembly quarters in GRA by suspected thugs.

Mr. Shaibu who represents Etsako West 2 and Sunday Aghedo (Ovia South West) were however released by the court presided over by Magistrate P. E. Asemota on self recognition on the payment of two hundred naira each alongside three others.

The three others include Eboise Emmanuel (38 years), Promise Ogiso (23 years) and Ernest Arasomwan (26 years) respectively.

The 1st and 2nd defendants (Philip Shaibu and Sunday Aghedo) and three others were arraigned before the court by the police in the state on a two count charge for their alleged role in the fracas that occurred at the legislative quarters on Ihama road GRA Benin City on October 7th, 2014 in which Mr. Momoh was seriously beaten and currently hospitalized.
