As preparations for 2015 general elections intensifies nationwide, some aggrieved persons in the southern part of Taraba State have protested alleged move by a party chieftain to present the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Darius Ishaku, as the consensus candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the governorship.

Though, the zone is expected to produce the next governor, the people accused General Theophilus Dajuma’s, (retd) of unilaterally endorsing Ishaku without wide consultation and approval.

The people alleged that Isiaku was out of touch with political realities on ground in the state, having spent his entire life outside the state.

A statement by Chief D. S. Nyaturi, one of the leaders in the zone, demanded that the General rescind his decision in the interest of the people, being an unpopular one.

He said people of Southern Taraba would stick with the decision of Chief Jubrin Anfani-led committee, which earlier screened all eligible candidates from the area and came up with a consensus candidate for the governorship slot.
