ENUGU—Enugu State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  yesterday, endorsed Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as consensus candidate for the governorship ticket in 2015, and lashed out at those stoking embers of discord in the party.

The party, in a statement by the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Okey Eze, said: “Our attention has been drawn to the false and mischievous campaign of calumny against the candidature of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by known bad bed followers who have lost touch with the reality on ground and have resorted to blackmail and untoward acts in the media in a failed attempt to mislead the public and discredit the party’s choice.

“This reaction has become necessary in view of the false rumours being peddled in the national dailies(Not Vanguard) that our consensus candidate for the 2015 governorship election in the State, Ugwuanyi ‘may not be cleared’ by the National leadership of our Party for his alleged ‘role in the emergence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal’.

“ The state chapter of our party wishes to state clearly that the said media publications do not in any form reflect the true position of the National Leadership of our Party. Rather the publications are the handiwork of mischief makers who because of their unpopularity in the Party lost out in the democratic process that led to the emergence of our Party’s consensus candidate.”
